AI-generated women spread disinformation about Singapore on TikTok

Preliminary Why: Publisher not yet named · subject to change

Status: no action reported

Severity moderate
Reported 13 Jul 2026

No source states: loss or records, developer and model, agent tool, could do, deployer, industry.

Severity moderate: test met: systems of others (TikTok platform) touched, with a bounded scope stated as 30 accounts and over 550 videos

A CNA investigation found an operation producing AI-generated female presenters who spoke in Mandarin about Singapore and Malaysia on TikTok. The investigation examined 30 accounts and over 550 videos, with nearly all assembled from AI-generated, manipulated or copied personas, reused voices and recycled scripts. Nearly nine in 10 videos pushed false or misleading claims, drawing more than 3 million views. Presenters repeated the same talking points over weeks and months, creating an illusion of independent voices. CNA sent questions and examples of two accounts to TikTok, and a few days later both accounts were terminated. CNA could not identify an operator or paying client, nor whether the campaign was commercial or state-linked.

Notes on gaps

The operator, paying client, and whether the campaign was commercial or state-linked are not identified. View counts measure reach, not persuasion, as the source notes. The deployment and lifecycle values are inferred from the videos being publicly posted on TikTok.
