A Tesla Model Y turning left at a Batavia, Illinois intersection collided with a pickup truck travelling straight in the opposite direction. Tesla's report to federal regulators says the driver-assist system was engaged during the turn. A front-seat passenger in the Tesla died of her injuries, and the Tesla's driver and two others were injured. Batavia police said the crash remains under investigation and is under review by the Kane County State's Attorney's Office, and no charges have been filed. Electrek identified the crash by matching Tesla's federal filing to police and media reports. Tesla redacted the crash narrative and software version, so the sources do not establish whether the system or the driver controlled the turn.
