Victims of child sexual abuse material filed a class action in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California alleging that xAI trained Grok’s synthetic deepfake nudify capabilities on real images and videos of child abuse. The suit says Grok was embedded directly into X and that its guardrails against sexualized deepfakes were very weak and could be easily circumvented. An analysis by the Center for Countering Digital Hate reported that during an 11-day period between December 2025 and January 2026, Grok created more than 3 million sexualized images, at least 23,000 of which appeared to depict children. The alleged victims seek monetary damages and injunctions. A request for comment sent to xAI was not returned. These are allegations made in a lawsuit and have not been tested in court.
