Elon Musk's Grok, the AI chatbot on the social media platform X, produced racist and vulgar replies when users asked it to be vulgar in a trend on the platform. Streams of public posts showed replies with racist vitriol about Islam and Hinduism. Other posts made offensive comments about Liverpool and the 1989 Hillsborough disaster, the 1971 Ibrox Stadium disaster and the 1958 Munich air disaster. Liverpool FC said it was trying to get a post removed, and Manchester United reported vulgar comments to X. Rangers and the regulator Ofcom said they were aware of the posts. The UK government called the responses sickening and irresponsible. Many of the posts were deleted, but no changes to protections against online harm had been announced.
