Muse personal agent misestimated Google Drive storage during Google One downgrade work

Preliminary Why: Publisher not yet named · subject to change

Status: no action reported

Severity minor
Reported 3 Nov 2026

No source states: loss or records, developer and model, deployer, industry.

Severity minor: the misestimate stayed within one user's own Google storage and no third party harm is stated; the user caught it by re-measuring before the downgrade decision.

A user asked Muse, their personal AI agent, to audit their Google Drive, migrate data to Cloudflare R2, and reduce storage to the 15GB free tier so their Google One plan could be cancelled. During the work Muse estimated that migrating about 2.2GB more would reach 15GB. When the user re-measured the actual byte count at the final stage, the estimate was found to be wrong and the target was unreachable. It was Muse that made the miscalculation. The user then chose to downgrade the plan from 200GB to 100GB rather than cancel. The user says that had they continued on the estimate, they would have kept working toward a goal they could never reach.

Application

Grounding and fact checks · Human approval for high-impact actions · Output filtering and redaction · People told they are dealing with AI · Drift monitoring

Evidence

No source states: a step-by-step account, when it happened, when it was found, how many records were exposed, the direct loss, a count of the other parties affected, any court case, the cause, what set it off, what was done.

Notes on gaps

The collector metadata gives a publication date of 2026-11-03, but the text does not state it, so it was not used. The 63 failed files and 399 unprocessed files are not treated as separate incidents because no agent error is stated for them. The Notion AI and Claude Code comparison and the reflections on delegation are not incidents. Extractor proposed values without quotes; dropped: .
