Severity minor: the suspension was contained to one account and its admins, access was restored after four hours, and no third-party data or systems were touched.

The No Kings Coalition's prominent pro-democracy Instagram account was temporarily suspended and its admins locked out for four hours at the peak of an early voting push. Meta's Andy Stone said the account had been using a Claude AI tool in a way that made it appear to be a bot. Automated review detected the error within an hour, but additional hurdles kept admins locked out. Meta apologized and offered a meeting with a technical expert; No Kings rejected that response and requested a meeting with senior leadership. State and federal lawmakers and a coalition of 14 attorneys general asked Meta to explain its actions, and on October 30 Meta executives met with the coalition, which says Meta has no plans to change policies leading to harmful over-enforcement.
