Claude-assisted reverse engineering of Adobe Creative Cloud apps into open-source clones (Artcraft/Photocraft)
Preliminary Why: Only a republished copy: Yahoo · subject to change
Status: no action reported
No source states: loss or records, agent tool, could do, deployer, industry.
Severity moderate: potential IP infringement touching a third party (Adobe) is alleged, but no loss figure, regulator or quantified scope is stated.
Software developer Brandon Thomas and his team used Claude Opus 5.5 to reverse-engineer Adobe's Creative Cloud apps and produce open-source clones, launched in early October under the name Artcraft. Thomas said he acted after repeated Adobe cancellation fees, and the team claims the Rust versions are clean-room and contain no Adobe code. Users reported critical bugs in the Photoshop replacement, Photocraft, including deleted images, randomly merged layers and instability, and it cannot open native PSD files. Critics called the app AI-driven slop that blatantly infringed Adobe's trademarks and copyrights; the source notes Adobe's terms of use explicitly ban reverse engineering of its software.

Notes on gaps
This is a press feature, not an incident report. The second described phenomenon (REA tool, AI-driven game decompilation) is a trend discussion without a concrete dated loss event and is not recorded as a separate incident. Extractor proposed values without quotes; dropped: .
