A nudification app, promoted as able to create pornographic deepfakes of female politicians, was advertised on Meta's platforms. WIRED reporters found the ads, and one featured an AI-generated explicit video resembling a prominent US politician. The ad ran on Meta's advertising network and passed through its review processes. The app was also listed on Apple's App Store, where it had apparently slipped past review. After WIRED's inquiry, Apple pulled the app within hours. Neither company had issued detailed statements about what went wrong or what changes it would make at the time of the report.
