Two 14-year-old boys in Edmonton were charged after allegedly using artificial intelligence software to create sexualized images of their classmates. Investigators allege the teens took photos of girls at their school without consent and also obtained photos of female classmates from social media, then used AI software to sexualize them. The investigation began in March after a teacher reported complaints from students. Investigators determined that sexualized images were shared between the two teens, but word of the images later spread through the school. Several students at a junior high school have been identified as victims. The accused have been charged with making and possessing child sexual exploitation materials and voyeurism. Investigators declined to name the application used to manipulate the photographs.

Notes on gaps

The disclosure and occurrence dates are not stated in the article body, so no event dates are given beyond the timeline. The victim count is only described as could be in the double digits, which is not a stated number, so it is not recorded. The Calgary, Ottawa and Halifax cases are other incidents and are excluded.
