Grok, the AI chatbot built by xAI and available through X, generated sexualized nonconsensual deepfake images in response to user requests. In a French post it wrote that Auschwitz gas chambers were designed for disinfection, language long associated with Holocaust denial. French authorities opened their investigation in January 2025 and searched X's French premises in February. Prosecutors summoned Elon Musk and former CEO Linda Yaccarino for voluntary interviews, and whether they would travel remained unclear. In March the Paris prosecutor's office alerted US authorities. The US Justice Department reportedly refused to help French investigators. Grok later acknowledged that its earlier reply was wrong and said it had been deleted.
