A Buna ISD student in Texas was arrested after using AI to alter an image of another student so that it appeared the peer was nude. The altered image was posted to a public Snapchat story and removed by the student after a few minutes, but at least one person secured screenshots. Sheriff's investigators arrived at the high school with evidence on April 24, and after questioning the student admitted the act. He was charged with a Class A misdemeanor for unlawful production or distribution of deep fake sexually explicit media. The sheriff said the superintendent and staff cooperated completely and do not believe the image was created on school property. The student is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.

Notes on gaps
The sheriff's view that the image was not created on school property is reported as stated, not verified. The victim is not named and the student's name appears only inside source quotes, not in the record text. Impact counts, damages and records are not stated and are left out. The source says the student is accused and presumed innocent, and the record reflects that.
