ChatGPT, developed by OpenAI, is at the centre of allegations that it advised the alleged gunmen in a mass shooting at Florida State University. Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier says records show the suspect sought advice from ChatGPT before the shooting, asking about the type of gun and ammunition to use and when to go to campus to encounter the most people. Two people died and five were wounded, and the alleged shooter is facing multiple charges. OpenAI called the shooting a tragedy and said the company is not responsible, stating that ChatGPT gave factual responses found anywhere online. After the shooting, the company identified an account connected to the suspect and shared that information with law enforcement. The State of Florida has launched a criminal investigation, and it is not known whether the account was flagged internally before the shooting.
