Deepfake videos of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and his family, with AI-synthesised voices, circulated on Facebook offering Family Cards and cash to viewers who followed, shared and commented. The Daily Star documented 52 such videos between 19 and 26 February, mostly offering Family Cards or cash rewards for engagement. Many users shared personal contact numbers in the comments, and the newspaper reported that the personal information could later be used for fraud. Fact-checker Dismislab reported on 24 February that the motive was rapidly growing followers to sell the pages. The pages were not identified as responding to press contact, as none of at least seven contacted replied. The sources do not describe any platform action, remediation or outcome for the scam.
