A family in Indore said their 16-year-old son went missing after leaving for coaching classes on February 2 and did not return. While they searched, unknown persons allegedly used a live video call to show a boy with a knife and threaten to harm him unless they paid. The family transferred Rs1.02 lakh after the callers sent a QR code. The call reportedly lasted several hours and the callers did not let the family disconnect. On February 4 the boy was traced safely in Dewas after contacting a friend, and he said he knew nothing of any such call. Police are investigating a cyber fraud angle and say the possibility of AI-generated or manipulated video is being examined. Transactions are being analysed to identify those involved.
