Saskatoon and Regina police investigated a grandparent scam in which callers posed as grandchildren in crisis, claiming a car crash and asking for bail money. Victims were told to withdraw cash and leave it for a courier, and a second person then collected it at their home. Police say five Saskatoon seniors were defrauded of more than $45,000 in November. Investigators said they were not certain whether the callers' voices were AI-cloned or the family details were taken from social media. One Regina victim became suspicious and called a lawyer whose name the caller had used, who told her she was being scammed. Police then intercepted a courier and arrested a man and a woman from Quebec, who were accused of the Saskatoon frauds. Police warn that similar scams have been reported across the country.
